BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Inspectors are checking to see if a Bennington bridge needs repairs after police say a tractor-trailer crashed into the structure.

The incident happened around 1 a.m. Monday. Police say the driver went under the railroad bridge, which ripped the roof and trailer doors off the vehicle.

The driver wasn’t hurt but was given a ticket for failing to obey the signs warning of the low clearance.

Police say it wasn’t immediately known if the bridge sustained any structural damage. Vermont Railway representatives planned to respond and inspect the bridge.
