BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - An autopsy shows that a Vermont inmate died from a bacterial infection due to intravenous drug use.

WCAX-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2gf3kqw ) it’s unclear whether 38-year-old David Bissonnette was already suffering from an infection before going to prison.

Bissonnette was transported from the infirmary at the Northwest State Correctional Facility in Swanton to a hospital in St. Albans last month. He was then transferred to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington where he was pronounced dead.

State police said at the time they believe Bissonnette died from a “medical issue.”
