I am an avid Washington Times reader who was born in pre-Castro Cuba and saw Fidel up-close. I can separate fact from the fantasy now being peddled by left-wing commentators and politicians in the wake of Castro’s death.

Castro killed and tortured people caught trying to leave Cuba. I met one young fellow Cuban whose legs were broken many times because he attempted to leave. People are starving, yet Castro lived in luxury (in houses belonging to friends of my family) and had billions of dollars invested in free-market economies. (I know one of his investment planners, a polo-playing playboy.) Meanwhile Cuba’s entire economy is in a shambles, hoping for tourist dollars to prop it up. The economy in pre-Castro Cuba saw the peso equaling the value of the American dollar.

Refugees from communist countries see Obama, the Clintons, et al for what they are: limousine liberals who need to be flushed out of the system.

Castro said he was pro-capitalist, then killed and tortured people who wanted out of his Cuba. Utopian communism has killed too many millions to count — but that’s never mentioned by left-wing political pundits, such as Geraldo Rivera.

I am Cuban and I have seen so-called “liberals” wreak havoc on my country, a nation with so much potential. I would rather be back home, but not under leftist rule. What a waste.
