PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Police say a 27-year-old Ivy League-educated woman fatally shot her boyfriend while the couple was traveling in a sport utility vehicle in northwest Philadelphia earlier this week.

Martina Westcott was charged with murder in the death of 33-year-old Terrell Bruce after surrendering to authorities on Wednesday.

Police say Westcott and Bruce were arguing inside a moving Ford Expedition when she shot him in the head on Tuesday afternoon, causing an accident with another vehicle in the Germantown section of the city.

Officers dispatched to the scene found the real estate agent unresponsive in the overturned SUV. Witnesses reported seeing a woman flee from the car after the crash.

Police haven’t disclosed who was driving at the time of the shooting.

It’s unclear if Westcott has an attorney who could comment.
