NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Officials say a firefighter was hurt falling through a collapsed floor while battling a blaze in a vacant North Providence home where a marijuana-growing operation was later discovered.

WPRI-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2hxkXSQ ) the North Providence building inspector says a marijuana-growing operation was found, with wiring for grow lights and hydro systems. Authorities are investigating.

The fire started around 3:30 a.m. Thursday.

Battalion Chief Louis Charello says the Providence firefighter who fell was treated and released.

The house was empty when the fire began. It’s considered a total loss.

The neighboring home was also damaged. The building inspector says another growing setup was found there.

Fire officials say both buildings are owned by a man from Worcester, Massachusetts, who says the homes are rented and he didn’t know what was happening inside.
