SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) - State troopers managed to stop a wrong-way driver on a freeway in metro Phoenix before she caused a serious crash.
The Department of Public Safety says the woman was spotted driving southbound in the northbound lanes of the Loop 1001 freeway in Scottsdale early Wednesday morning. The driver made it nearly nine miles before troopers and a Salt River Police officer got her to pull over.
ABC-15 TV reports (https://bit.ly/2idCGgQ) the woman is suspected of being impaired and didn’t realize she had struck another vehicle during the drive. That driver was able to swerve out of the path of the woman’s vehicle and only had a damaged mirror.
Troopers say the woman was disorientated when they approached her after the stop. She’s facing DUI and multiple other charges.
