PIKESVILLE, Md. (AP) - Baltimore County police are identifying an officer they say shot and injured a man armed with a knife during a domestic disturbance.

Police announced in a statement Tuesday that Officer Remmers, who has been with the department for seven years, is on routine administrative leave after firing at 48-year-old Brian Palmer on Saturday night. The department only releases officers’ last names.

Police say Remmers knocked on the door of a Pikesville apartment and Palmer opened it with a knife in his hand and moved toward Remmers “in a threatening manner.”

Police say Palmer is in expected to survive and has been charged with first-degree assault.

The incident is still under investigation, and will be reviewed by the state’s attorney.

Police say Remmers is white and Palmer is black.
