MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Minneapolis firefighters have rescued a motorist who was stranded about three hours after his car plunged down a bank of the Mississippi River.
The fire department was called just before 9 a.m. Tuesday. According to the department, the man had driven off of West River Road around 5:15 a.m. and his car plunged about 200-250 feet before becoming trapped by large trees near the river’s edge.
Two Minneapolis Public Works employees discovered the accident and called 911.
Minnesota Public Radio News (https://bit.ly/2iA3uv4 ) reports firefighters lowered a rescue basket to the car, and the victim was loaded onto an air boat and taken to paramedics.
The man was taken to a hospital. It’s unclear what caused the crash or the extent of the motorist’s injuries.
