OPINION:
It cannot be lost on the observant that one of the last acts of the current president was his instruction to his U.N. representative to abstain from the Security Council resolution condemning Israel for building new settlements (“A final insult to Israel,” Web, Dec. 25). Absent the courage to vote yes on the resolution, thus demonstrating his preference for Palestinians over Jews, and absent the character to vote against the resolution (upholding 40 years of American support for Israel), President Obama took the weasel way out and stood aside. This has been the main characteristic of his eight years in office.
The field of debris left scattered around the world is truly breathtaking. We are seeing the rise of Russia, Iran and China; the explosive and continued growth of the Islamic State; surging terrorist threats across Europe; the expansion of terrorist training centers in Yemen and the coast of Africa; massive illegal immigration across the U.S. southern border; and the authorization of an increasing flow of politically oppressed immigrants impossible to properly vet. Mr. Obama has diminished America and turned his back, literally, on the very people who voted him into office.
In response to his extraordinarily limpid presidency, all we can do is remember him as the one with no name. Always, and so he shall forever remain a small-minded “community organizer,” skilled in agitating people, one against the other, whether by ethnicity, class or education; a true socialist and snake-oil salesman par excellent who made millions believe he was actually going to improve the country.
