PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A Providence man was rescued after his house caught fire and he jumped from a window onto a small roof above his door.
The fire began around 8 a.m. Monday at the Belmont Avenue home. Officials told The Providence Journal that firefighters found the man on the roof and climbed a ladder to rescue him.
He was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was the only one in the house at the time.
The fire began in the basement but quickly spread. The firefighters union says firefighters were called out of the building at one point when the fire intensified.
Officials say the house is nearly a total loss. The cause is under investigation.
Nearby homes were not damaged.
