LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (AP) - The state authority that oversees the Olympic venues in the Adirondack Mountains is getting a new leader.
Chief executive officer Ted Blazer is retiring after 20 years in charge of the Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA). Gore Mountain general manager Mike Pratt has been picked to serve as interim boss while a national search is conducted. The 61-year-old Blazer will stay as an adviser until his retirement at the end of February.
The change comes after the worst winter season on record at Whiteface Mountain. Total yearly revenues dropped nearly $2 million in 2015-16, to just under $7.7 million, as weather took a toll. Whiteface received about half its normal average of over 100 inches of snow and also was hit by more than 17 inches of rain.
