HASTINGS, Neb. (AP) - A central Nebraska church is hosting its final services on Christmas Eve.
The Hastings Tribune says (https://bit.ly/2hUDrgV ) the congregation at Hanover Presbyterian Church south of Hastings will gather one last time on Saturday at 7 p.m.
The church has held services for 133 years, but its members have dwindled to a few dozen people and pastor C.L. Wimer is expected to retire.
The Christmas Eve service is expected to be well attended by those who have shared in the church’s history.
Some longtime church members say they’re saddened that the church will no longer host services.
The church was established in the 1870s and held the first service for its 29 charter members in July 1883. Before that, services had been held in church members’ homes throughout Adams County.
