MIDDLEBURY, Vt. (AP) - The mother of a New York man killed in the crash of a small plane near a Vermont airport says her son was a lifelong aircraft enthusiast who loved to fly.
Meridy Petricciolli, (Peh-TREE-chee-o-lee) of Las Vegas, made the comments Friday hours after her son, 42-year-old Paul D. Bessler, of Crown Point, New York, was killed in the crash of the plane he was flying not far from the Vermont state airport in Middlebury.
The Federal Aviation Administration and state officials are investigating the cause of the crash, which occurred around noon on Friday. Bessler was the only occupant of the plane, a single engine Piper PA28.
Petricciolli told the Burlington Free Press (https://bfpne.ws/2i2P833 ) her son had worked at the Vermont airport for more than a decade.
