LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) - Lubbock Police say one man has died after being hit by a van while stopping to help another stranded driver.
Police say Raul Garibay, the driver of the van who fled on foot after the accident, has turned himself into police Saturday morning.
The accident happened after a pickup truck hit a car parked on the westbound shoulder of North Loop 289 before 8 p.m. Friday. The driver of the pickup got out to check on the stranded driver and called his father, who drove to the scene.
A second driver, Stephen Conway, stopped to make sure everyone was OK. While waiting for the police, Conway, the pickup driver and his father were struck by a Garibay’s van. Police say Conway died at the scene.
