MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Department of Financial Regulation says a number of people across the state have been receiving fraudulent phone calls about special programs for pain management and opioid prescriptions.
The caller claims to be from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont and asks people to disclose personal information.
The state says Blue Cross is not affiliated with any such program and did not authorize the calls. The caller ID sometimes displays the name “Margarita Man.”
The department reminds people to never give out personal information to anyone unless you are certain you are speaking to a trusted source.
