PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say two dogs and a horse that encountered a rabid fox on a ranch in Yavapai County have been euthanized.
The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office says the fox attacked the horse on Dec. 2 by biting its legs as a ranch hand was riding the animal.
The ranch hand then had two nearby herding dogs attack the fox, leading to the fox’s death.
The fox tested positive for rabies.
Neither dog had been vaccinated for rabies.
Authorities say the ranch hand turned over the dogs to authorities to euthanize rather than place them in quarantine for four months.
The horse also was euthanized after authorities said it lacked a rabies vaccine history.
