PORT ARTHUR, Texas (AP) - The Coast Guard has removed two crewmen from an oil tanker after they were injured in an industrial accident.
One crewman, a 24-year-old engineer, was airlifted Wednesday from the Greek oil tanker United Ambassador and taken to a hospital. The Coast Guard said in a release that he was hurt when a piece dislodged from pressurized equipment and struck him in the head.
Another man, the ship’s 42-year-old chief engineer, suffered a broken nose, was placed on a Coast Guard emergency vessel and later hospitalized.
Petty Officer Dustin Williams said Thursday that both victims are Greek. He says a language barrier made it difficult to understand how the accident occurred.
The tanker was about 20 miles off the Texas Gulf Coast from Port Arthur.
