ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - The state Taxation and Revenue Department is working to move forward after Secretary Demesia Padilla’s abrupt resignation last week.

The Albuquerque Journal reports (https://bit.ly/2hHUXos ) that Deputy Secretary John Monforte, who is now leading the department, says he has held several town hall meetings to speak with staff after Padilla resigned on Thursday, the day after state investigators raided tax agency offices.

Investigators seized personal and business income tax records for Padilla and her husband.

Monforte says the department is committed to fulfilling duties to the public despite the upheaval and that in addition to completing tax collections, the agency is planning to propose several tax-related measures to the Legislature.
