NEW YORK (AP) - Police in New York City say one of their own was severely has been injured when an officer was hit by a car in downtown Manhattan.

The New York Police Department says the man was struck around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Clinton and South streets.

The officer sustained serious head injuries. He was rushed to Bellevue Hospital Center for treatment. His name and information on his condition haven’t been released.



Police haven’t disclosed whether the motorist remained at the scene. It’s unclear whether the driver will face criminal charges as a result of the accident.

The intersection was closed as police investigated the crash.
