LIGONIER, Pa. (AP) - The historic Laurel Mountain Ski Resort in southwestern Pennsylvania was scheduled to reopen for the first time in 11 years.
The resort has been shuttered since it was open on-and-off from 1999 to 2005 as former owners attempted to reinvent the resort about 50 miles east of Pittsburgh after it previously closed in 1989.
Seven Springs Mountain Resort and the state invested $6.5 million to renovate the resort.
State Parks Director John Hallas says state officials think the improvements will make the resort more successful than previous attempts reopen it. The renovations include a modern ski lift and improved trails as well as nearly double the snow-making capacity.
The resort was to reopen Wednesday at noon.
