ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Forecasters say eastern New Mexico and possibly other areas of the state will have difficult driving conditions Thursday due to precipitation that will include snow, sleet and freezing rain.

The National Weather Service says precipitation will begin late Wednesday and early Thursday morning and that eastern New Mexico can expect the most widespread trouble Thursday.

The forecasters say freezing rain is rare in western New Mexico but that there have been cases in the past in river bottoms between Albuquerque and Santa Fe and between Grants and Rio Puerco.

Significant accumulations of snow are expected on higher elevations of the northern and west-central mountains, with some lower elevations getting snow accumulations Thursday night and Friday morning.

Forecasters say there also could be snow Christmas Eve and Christmas morning.
