SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Almost 23 percent of all Utah spending in fiscal year 2016 came from federal funds.

The Deseret News reports (https://bit.ly/2hHSj21 ) that according to a new state audit, Utah spent nearly $4.4 billion in federal funds in the budget year that ended June 30.

The federal government requires Utah to annually audit its financial statements and its federal programs as a condition of receiving federal money.

The audit is aimed at ensuring compliance for each major federal program. In the report, Utah developed a plan for agencies to correct any accounting deficiencies and errors identified.
