ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Albuquerque police arrested a 20-year-old man accused of pointing a gun at his girlfriend’s father following a standoff with SWAT officers.

Police spokesman Fred Duran says detectives tried to serve a felony arrest warrant for Luis Lara-Valdez on Tuesday as he left his girlfriend’s home. But Lara-Valdez ignored police and went back inside, barricading himself. Police called out the SWAT and crisis negotiation team that spoke to Lara-Valdez on the phone.

He eventually agreed to come outside and was taken into custody.

Police say the warrant was for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. They say Lara-Valdez pointed the weapon at his girlfriend’s father and threatened to kill him.

It’s unclear whether Lara-Valdez has an attorney. He was not listed in jail records as of Tuesday night.
