CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - A 79-year-old woman has been killed in a mobile home fire in rural Kanawha County.
Local news outlets report that officials with the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office say Ruth Thomas died in the early morning fire on Monday in Loudendale.
Kanawha County Emergency Management Deputy Director C.W. Sigman tells WSAZ-TV it appears the woman was trying to escape the house. Her body was found near the front door.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. It’s unclear whether any smoke detectors were in the home.
