MOUNT VERNON, Ill. (AP) - Firefighters have extinguished an overnight fire at a building housing a Sears store and mattress business in southern Illinois.
No injuries were reported in the Mount Vernon blaze.
Authorities estimate about $1 million in damage.
The state fire marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire.
Firefighters were on the scene for several hours, saying the cold weather complicated their task. The water the firefighters used formed ice, making the area slippery.
