WASHINGTON (AP) - Fire officials say a blaze destroyed the clubhouse at the District Yacht Club in southeast Washington.

D.C. Fire and EMS spokesman Vito Maggiolo says firefighters dispatched to the District Yacht club on Water Street southeast around 3:15 a.m. Monday found the clubhouse engulfed in flames. Despite intense flames and flying embers, Maggiolo says crews were able to keep the blaze from spreading to the boats nearby. He says there are no reports of injuries or significant damage to boats. The destroyed building includes a kitchen, lounge and workshop.

Crews initially faced water supply challenges since the building is in an isolated area, but Maggiolo says crews were able to work around it and a fireboat was also called in.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
