HAMPTON, Va. (AP) - Firefighters believe that a live Christmas tree was responsible for sparking a fire that damaged a Hampton home.
Battalion Chief Anthony Chittum said in a news release that the fire was contained to a bedroom early Monday and extinguished in about 15 minutes.
No one was at the home at the time of the accidental fire, and no injuries were reported. The rest of the home was heavily damaged by smoke and water.
Fire officials advise residents to always turn off tree lights before leaving home or going to bed. Live trees should also be watered daily.
