PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Federal prosecutors say the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maine collected more than $3.7 million in criminal and civil actions in fiscal 2016.
Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II says about $1.1 million was collected in criminal actions and $2.6 million was from civil actions.
He says the district also worked with other U.S. Attorney’s Offices and the federal Department of Justice to collect more than $900,000 in jointly pursued cases. The vast majority of that amount is from civil actions.
The federal justice department collected more than $15 billion in civil and criminal actions in total for the fiscal year ended Sept. 30. The 94 U.S. Attorney’s Offices and the main litigating divisions of the justice department have a combined budget of a little less than $3 billion.
