OPINION:
Writing as a life-long registered Democrat (current age 77), I can tell you that the reason Democrats are losing elections at all levels is really quite simple (“Labor Secretary Tom Perez joins mix of candidates to head DNC,” Web, Dec. 15). The Democrats are a party of the old — old leaders and irrelevant old ideas that no longer fit with the problems and issues facing the citizens of our nation.
Re-electing Nancy Pelosi as the minority leader of the House of Representatives was the clearest sign and the last straw for a party that has nothing to offer a changing and demanding electorate. And, making Tom “Disparate Impact” Perez head of the Democratic National Committee is akin to grave digging.
President Obama’s and Hillary Clinton’s hateful (at least toward straight white men) identity politics, gender politics and political correctness today are as dead as the dodo.
If the Democrats ever want to sing “Happy Days Are Here Again” they need fresh ideas and fresh leadership tied to the very real problems the American electorate is facing both today and for as far ahead as we can see.
