HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - Wintry weather in Pennsylvania prompted speed reductions on the Pennsylvania Turnpike and other roadways in the commonwealth and also caused flight and public transit delays in Philadelphia.

Turnpike officials said weather and roadway conditions prompted a reduction of the speed limit to 45 mph at 8 a.m. Saturday on all turnpike sections including the east-west I-76, I-70/76 and I-276 section, the northeast extension (I-476) and all southwestern Pennsylvania extension roadways. Turnpike officials said normal speed limits of 70 or 55 mph were restored at 1 p.m. Saturday but warned drivers to watch out for slippery pavements and standing water.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation imposed similar speed reductions on other highways in the commonwealth but later lifted them.

Philadelphia International Airport said Federal Aviation Administration officials imposed a ground stop Saturday on flights heading to Philadelphia but later lifted it, but flights had been arriving an average of one hour and 38 minutes late. Flight disruptions were still being reported Saturday afternoon.

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority warned regional rail passengers that all trains could experience delays of up to a half-hour, and service on some lines were halted due to overhead power or signal problems. Weather-related detours were also imposed on a number of bus routes.

Duquesne Light Co. reported about 4,500 customers without power in Allegheny and Beaver counties due to falling trees and limbs caused by the mix of winter weather moving through the region.
