SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Authorities in Salt Lake City say a police pursuit of a vehicle ended with an officer being struck by the car and the man who had been driving it being taken into custody.

Police say the officer was knocked unconscious when the still-running car struck him after the driver got out and ran at the end of a pursuit that began Friday evening in Taylorsville.

According to police, other officers then located the man behind the building and used a stun gun to subdue him.

The injured officer was reported in fair condition at a hospital.

Police say the pursuit began when an officer spotted a vehicle reportedly involved in a property-related crime and that the off-duty officer who was injured joined in the pursuit after it was underway.
