MOUNTAIN CITY, Tenn. (AP) - A Tennessee judge has issued a gag order in the case of a 12-year-old boy charged with the murder of an 84-year-old woman.

The Johnson City Press reports (https://bit.ly/2gMY1vy ) Judge William Bliss Hawkins filed the order Friday. The boy is accused of killing 84-year-old Teruko Shaw last December. Johnson County Sheriff Mike Reece said the child knew Shaw and they lived near each other. The boy has not been identified because he is a juvenile.

Reece said the boy has been extradited from another state and appeared in juvenile court on Friday morning. First Judicial District Attorney General Tony Clark said trying the boy as a juvenile would require a mental evaluation from the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services. The final decision would be made by the judge.
