DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) - The Houston County Board of Education has approved a contract for incoming superintendent David Sewell.
Sewell will be paid $142,000 per year and will be eligible for any raises approved by the legislature for educators. Sewell will also receive $7,000 per year for travel.

He became superintendent-elect earlier this year after defeating Matt Swann in the Republican primary. He had no Democratic opposition in November.
At $142,000 per year, Sewell is the 29th highest paid school superintendent in Alabama, according to an Alabama State Department of Education’s list of superintendent salaries. The highest paid superintendent is the Jefferson County superintendent, who makes $228,000 per year. Dothan City School Superintendent Chuck Ledbetter earns $175,000 per year.
