The era of Amazon drones has officially arrived.
Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos celebrated the company’s first foray into drone commerce on Wednesday with an announcement on Twitter. A British man outside Cambridge ordered a 4.7-pound package and received it in 13 minutes.
“First-ever #AmazonPrimeAir customer delivery is in the books,” Mr. Bezos tweeted.
The milestone comes just months after the U.K.’s Civil Aviation Authority entered a partnership deal with the retail giant.
“We want to enable the innovation that arises from the development of drone technology by safely integrating drones into the overall aviation system,” CAA Policy Director Tim Johnson said in a statement released on July 25. “These tests by Amazon will help inform our policy and future approach.”
Amazon said its first Air Prime customer ordered a Fire TV and a bag of popcorn, The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.
