LOS ANGELES (AP) - Sheriff’s officials say a deputy shot and wounded an armed man who was riding a bicycle through a residential area of South Los Angeles.
Authorities say deputies on patrol tried to stop the bicyclist Monday night in the Westmont neighborhood.
The Los Angeles Times reports (https://lat.ms/2gBPC2F) the man was carrying a handgun.
Officials say the man ignored the deputies’ commands and rode away. The newspaper says a deputy opened fire when the man got off his bicycle. Additional details about the shooting were not immediately available.
The man, who was struck in the torso, was hospitalized in unknown condition.
A handgun was recovered at the scene.
