A newborn baby girl in Harris County is the first confirmed Zika fatality in Texas, KHOU-TV of Houston reported Tuesday morning.

The baby had birth defects and died shortly after birth.

“Authorities say the mother traveled to Latin America during her pregnancy where it is suspected she became infected,” KHOU reported.
