Eric Trump, son of GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, said Monday that his father’s visit to flood-ravaged Louisiana is what prompted President Obama to schedule his own trip there.
“Quite frankly, if my father didn’t go down there and he didn’t put the pressure on him, Obama wouldn’t be down there,” Eric Trump said Monday on “Fox and Friends.”
Donald Trump and his running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, handed out supplies and met with local officials in Louisiana on Friday.
“I can tell you this, as a guy who’s been around my father his entire life: When there is a problem, when there is a natural disaster, when there is an issue, my father will be the first person there,” Eric Trump said.
The White House announced Friday afternoon that the president would visit Baton Rouge on Tuesday. Mr. Obama returned Sunday from a vacation on Martha’s Vineyard.
The White House said the president wants to make sure the trip doesn’t interfere with ongoing recovery efforts.
