ROCHESTER, Ind. (AP) — Five Notre Dame football players have been arrested after Indiana State Police say a trooper found marijuana and a loaded handgun in their car, while a sixth player was arrested in separate battery incident.

State Police say a trooper stopped a car Friday night in Fulton County for speeding. With the help of a drug-sniffing dog, the trooper found the marijuana and handgun.

The university confirmed all five arrested are football players: Ashton White, Max Redfield, Kevin Stepherson Jr., Dexter Williams and Te’von Coney.

All remain jailed on a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge. Redfield, Stepherson and Williams face an additional misdemeanor charge of possession of an unlicensed handgun.

The school also confirmed the arrest of a sixth player, Devin Butler, early Saturday in South Bend on a battery charge.
