OPINION:
Hillary Clinton, never having run a real business, has not learned that businesses don’t pay taxes. Customers of businesses pay the taxes on business (“Hillary Clinton: Nowhere girl,” Web, Aug. 14). It’s surprising that Mr. Moore overlooked Mrs. Clinton’s ignorance of such a basic business principle.
Increasing taxes on businesses forces the prices of products and services to rise. Higher prices mean customers buy less. And since about 70 percent of U.S. gross domestic product is consumption by those customers, GDP will shrink, taking jobs and personal income with it. Increasing business taxes isn’t “flirting with depression,” it is a marriage to depression.
