German police in the city of Eisenhüttenstadt arrested a 27-year-old man on Wednesday accused of “planning a terror strike.”
Authorities with detection dogs arrested a German national and swept his home for explosives. The man, whose name was not released by police, is said to have recently converted to Islam.
Early reports said the scheduled attack involved planting a homemade nail bomb during an upcoming festival.
No explosives were found inside the man’s home, Deutsche Welle reported Wednesday.
A local official told the newspaper that Eisenhüttenstadt’s festival will still take place Aug. 26-28.
The interior ministry in the state of Brandenburg declined to comment on the arrest, Reuters reported.
