(1) Pastor Adrian Rogers, late pastor of Bellevue Baptist in Memphis, on Christian involvement in government

***The people who run “Love Worth Finding”—the teaching ministry of the late Adrian Rogers, recently posted this two minute clip from a sermon by Rogers. Here’s the money quote:

“It is inconceivable that God would have ordained human government and told his people to stay out of it. If that is true, who does that leave to run it?”

(2) Arab Media Personality Calls on Muslims to Accept Nation of Israel (NRB)

A popular Kuwaiti media personality is calling on Arab and Muslim states to recognize Israel openly as a legitimate Jewish nation. Yousuf ’Abd Al-Karim Al-Zinkawi explained in an article published in Al-Siyassa that countries like Qatar and Oman take a pragmatic approach to Israel. He encouraged other countries to learn from their approach.

It’s not uncommon to hear Israel referred to in terms like “the Zionist Entity,” or “the Israeli occupation.”

Al-Zinkawi called for language like this to stop. He said the majority of the world supports Israel’s existence so Arab states should complete the process and move in the same direction.

“Covenant College has elected to forfeit the Women’s Tennis USA South Conference championship match, scheduled for April 17, 2016. The championship match takes place on a Sunday, and as an institution owned and operated by the Presbyterian Church in America we observe the Sabbath by not competing in athletic events on Sunday. This conviction is clearly stated in our Student Handbook and is informed by the Bible, the Westminster Confession of Faith, and the PCA Book of Church Order.”

(5) Ellen Degeneres: Mississippi Law ’Definition of Discrimination’

DeGeneres attacked the bill during her opening monologue, saying she normally does not get into politics, but felt she had to address this particular issue:

“The governor of the state signed a religious freedom bill, which might sound good because the word ’freedom’ is in it. Under the law, you can deny gay people marriage, adoption and foster care services, fire or refuse to employ them and decline to rent or sell them property.”

(6) Mississippi Governor signs law allowing armed church members (AP)

The Church Protection Act allows places of worship to designate members to undergo firearms training so they can provide armed security for their congregations. It specifies that those designated can carry guns into church buildings and gives them legal protections.

The law also loosens gun permit requirements by allowing people to carry holstered weapons without a permit, making Mississippi the ninth state with such a law, said NRA spokeswoman Amy Hunter.

(7) How a Texas Church Drove Out the Predatory Loan Industry (Christianity Today)

To Stewart, modern-day lenders are little different. “It’s wrong to see another’s desperation as the chance to put them into an agreement that will all but guarantee that what little they have left will soon be yours,” he said. “Just read Isaiah 58 or the Book of James, chapter five.”

Of course, expressing indignation about an iniquitous practice is one thing; being able to do anything about it is quite another. Fortunately, in recent years, municipalities in Texas have become heartily sick of the predatory loan industry.
