OPINION:
The Boston Globe editorial writers recently wrote an amateurish, fake story condemning Republican presidential contender Donald Trump (“Pulp fiction: The Boston Globe satirical attack on Donald Trump is just plain odd,” Web, April 10). The writers state that as president, Mr. Trump will have an enemies list. This is a wild accusation for a so-called responsible paper to publish.
The Boston Globe endorsed Hillary Clinton this primary season. Mrs. Clinton and her husband had an enemies list when they resided in the White House. Craig Livingstone was hired at the request of Hillary Rodham Clinton to be director of the White House’s Office of Personnel Security — even though he was vastly underqualified for the position. Mr. Livingstone improperly requested Federal Bureau of Investigation background reports concerning several hundred individuals who did not support President Bill Clinton. The Clintons also authorized the Internal Revenue Service to audit their antagonists, including Gennifer Flowers, Paula Jones, Judicial Watch, etc. Why was there no condemnation of any of this from the Globe writers? Could it be a double standard is at play?
The Boston Globe writers condemned Mr. Trump’s immigration proposals, yet they support “sanctuary cities” and illegal immigrations, which led to the shooting death of Kathryn Steinle. After the murder of Ms. Steinle in “sanctuary city” San Francisco by an illegal immigrant, the Clinton campaign issued a statement saying that Mrs. Clinton “believes that sanctuary cities can help further public safety, and she has defended those policies going back years.”
The Boston Globe endorsed Barack Obama in 2008. In a sermon after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, Mr. Obama’s trusted adviser and minister, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, implied that America deserved the attacks.
The Boston Globe should not be lowering itself to the level of tabloid journalism just to increase its circulation. A serious reality and beliefs check is in order.
