OPINION:
Cal Thomas and I regret the lack of moral standards and guidelines around today (“Whose morality?” Web, April 6), but I believe the universal standard for choosing between right and wrong comes down to the answer to a simple query: Is the thing in question suitable to human nature?
Aristotle said that the motivation for every human act is happiness. Christians believe that this means not only earthly but eternal happiness. The problem comes when we choose the apparent good, which is immediate and temporary, instead of the real good, which will make us happy in the long run and is more suitable to our human nature. This is where education has made and still can make a contribution in elevating moral standards.
