House Speaker Paul Ryan has scheduled a press conference Tuesday to definitively rule out the possibility that he would accept the Republican presidential nomination at a contested convention.

After the the press conference was announced, sources close to Mr. Ryan confirmed that he intended to once and for all lay to rest rumors that he was plotting a behind-the-scenes bid for the nomination.

Mr. Ryan, a Wisconsin Republican who was the party’s 2012 vice presidential nominee, has repeatedly denied that he is interested in the securing the presidential nomination this year, but to no avail.

Rumors of backroom deal-making continued to swirl as the GOP establishment seeks an alternative to billionaire businessman Donald Trump, who is the front-runner for the nomination despite facing stiff resistance from party leaders.

The press conference is scheduled for 3:15 p.m. at the Republican National Committee headquarters in Washington.
