Prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty for the white man accused of shooting and killing nine black churchgoers in a Charleston, South Carolina church this June, according to multiple news outlets.

Ninth Circuit Solicitor Scarlett Wilson is expected to discuss the case Thursday afternoon.

Ahead of her announcement, the Associated Press and The Post and Courier reported that court documents filed in the case state that authorities will pursue the death penalty for 21-year-old Dylann Roof because more than two people were killed in the attack and others’ lives were put at risk.

Mr. Roof has been charged with nine counts of murder counts in connection with the June 17 mass shooting inside the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church.
