OPINION:
I read with great interest your article on the renaming of Mount McKinley, which I find so unpatriotic (“McKinley, a mountain moniker no more,” Web, Aug. 31). I really didn’t know much about President William McKinley, other than that he had a mountain named after him. This op-ed provided me with a small snippet of McKinley’s presidential accomplishments, of which most Americans are probably unaware. The piece piqued my interest so much that I will look for Fred Barnes’ book on the presidency.
Please continue to run more pieces about both our lesser-known and well-known past presidents. Perhaps doing so it will raise the interest of our young citizenry, since the public-school system seems to have decided to eradicate many American-history classes from its curricula.
