Many people who fight for the ethical treatment of animals also work to protect people, including unborn babies. Why do some just assume otherwise? Surely no one would say, for example, that people who go to bars care more about beer than babies, or that movie-goers are wasting money on movies while unborn babies die.

No one assumes that people who raise funds for cancer victims don’t also care about people with heart conditions, and no one questions why people who help the elderly aren’t doing more for the homeless. It’s not a competition. Compassion is limitless. Truly kind people work to stop suffering and injustice wherever it occurs.

Many of the caring individuals who speak out against factory farming and other cruelties are the same people who serve vegan meals at soup kitchens, give donated fur coats to the homeless, or simply contribute to health charities that help people without harming animals.

Anyone who is pro-life should work to save both babies and animals. Like humans, animals are made of flesh, bone and blood. They have families and friends and they mourn when they lose a loved one. And thankfully, we can all choose vegan foods, speak out about animal abuse and care about kids at the same time.
