In “The Devil We Know,” author and ex-CIA operative Robert Baer tells us “The United States cannot stop Iran’s rise short of an open-ended thirty-year policy of containment or a full-scale war. Alliances, unenforceable sanctions, threats — none have worked so far, nor will they.”

We read about the recent Russian military build-up in Syria soon after the Iranian Quds Force commander met with ex-KGB agent and Russian President Vladimir Putin. We should not forget Russia’s support of pro-Russian Ukrainian rebels and Syria’s President Bashar Assad. Also, with Iran’s supporting its terrorist proxy, Hezbollah, in Lebanon, how can one imagine that any joint effort with Russia in Syria would help stabilize the refugee crisis?

While there are those who want to seal a nuclear deal with Iran, we see that Iran has now sealed a military deal in Syria with Russia, the main contributor to Iran’s nuclear program.

Perhaps this recalls a 2,500-year-old foretelling of a major conflict in the ’distant future,’ one involving Russia, Persia (Iran), and other areas of the Middle East and North Africa. It makes one ask, are we now seeing its beginnings?
