(1) Former Congressman Frank Wolf writes, ’Once again’ breaking the promise of ’never again’
“After visiting northern Iraq in January, meeting with representatives from the region and closely following the reports over the last few months, I am convinced that what I witnessed was and is an ongoing genocide of Christians, Yezidis and other religious minorities.”
(2) Can Democrats sway young evangelicals? (CNN)
“No Democratic presidential candidate has carried the evangelical vote since Jimmy Carter, a Southern Baptist, won the White House in 1976. Four years later, Falwell and his powerful new Moral Majority helped Ronald Reagan oust Carter and put evangelicals solidly in the Republican camp for decades to come. Although Democrats don’t expect that to change anytime soon, some hope to at least put a dent in the evangelical vote this time around. They have their eyes on young evangelicals, who are often less conservative on social issues than their parents.”
(3) How Faith Changed David Gregory’s Life, by Cathy Lynn Grossman (RNS)
“I happen to be incredibly inspired by the teachings of Jesus,” said Gregory, whose book details his conversations not only with rabbis but with evangelical leaders such as Joel Osteen, Tim Keller and Russell Moore and with Catholic Cardinal Timothy Dolan. (He also speaks with Mohamed Magid, imam of a large Northern Virginia mosque, about centering faith in life.)
(4) What If Castro Comes to Communion?, by Paul Kengor (Crisis Magazine)
So, again, here’s the big question: What if? What if Raul walks to the altar rail? Is Francis ready to deny him in front of all of Cuba and its state-controlled cameras and those of the entire world? That would be quite a tense spectacle for a pope known for a widely reported refusal to “judge.” Is the Vatican ready for this? I hope this has been considered, because it darn well could happen. Pope Francis better be ready for a potential political-spiritual fiasco in Cuba.
(5) Don’t Worry About Those Blood Moons, by Joel Miller (Ancient Faith)
***Miller’s thoughtful response to the “blood moons” talk of late (i.e., Hagee and others)
