One of the nation’s most prestigious universities issued, and then retracted, an alert Sunday afternoon claiming that there was an active shooter on campus.
“Active Shooter reported on campus. Police responding. Evacuate if able or seek shelter. Lock and barricade doors. More to follow,” the MIT Police said on their official Twitter account.
Shortly afterward though, the Cambridge Police said that while there was a shooting on Portland Street and the suspect remained at large, there was not an active gunman on the campus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
According to the Cambridge Police, the victim in that shooting was a woman who sustained “non-life threatening injuries.”
